Cornell Design Connect Presentation on Waste Water Treatment Plant Reuse
On May 19th at the Watkins Glen Village Hall, Cornell Design Connect students presented two creative concepts they formed as a result of researching international best-practices for waterfront development, obtaining feedback from attendants at the public meeting session held in April and collecting information provided via 80 online surveys completed by area residents.
The team presented two option that would both (1) create a longer-term revenue source for the village with the goal of helping to reduce the property tax liabilities of village property owners and (2) ensure that there is public access to the lake that benefits both village residents and tourists to the area.
This is just the start of a longer-term, community engagement and project feasibility process that will help village officials determine the highest and best use for the property once the waste water treatment plant is relocated.
